When the unthinkable happens—when a loved one who served doesn’t come home or passes on—what’s next for those left behind?

Too often, surviving spouses, children, and caregivers are handed a maze of forms, outdated advice, or no guidance at all. That’s where the 2025 VA Pamphlet comes in—and where the FTV|BTV mission expands even further.

This summer, Laura Smith, mother of two, and a quiet force behind the scenes—steps into the spotlight. While Jean, her mother-in-law, soaks up some sun with Laura’s twins (Liam and Leah), Laura will lead the next session of Jean and Laura’s Veteran Family Workshops (JLVFWS)

Her message is clear:
No dependent or caregiver should have to figure this out alone.

FTV|BTV Magazine’s next issue (Volume 1, Issue 3) will focus entirely on empowering you—the ones often forgotten in the shuffle. From Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC) to education benefits, pension eligibility, and caregiver support, this issue is your roadmap through it all.

And the best place to start?

The 2025 VA Pamphlet—updated, practical, and surprisingly powerful. It’s more than just a booklet. It’s a lifeline packed with real answers, the latest laws (like the Elizabeth Dole Act), and helpful insight that survivors and families deserve to know from Day One.

Laura will walk through key sections of the pamphlet during her upcoming workshop—hosted inside the pages of FTV|BTV. She’ll also be joined by voices of other surviving spouses, just like her, who have found community and healing through shared knowledge.

If you are a spouse, child, or caregiver—this issue is for you.
If you know someone who is—send them our way.

Sign up for the newsletter and prepare to meet Laura in the next issue of FTV|BTV: Summer 2025

Download the 2025 VA Pamphlet before the session begins.
Knowledge is power—and in this case, it’s peace of mind too.
